Congressman Chris Deluzio urges backup for rail safety legislation.
The
potential for another train catastrophe like the one that jolted East
Palestine, Ohio, is real, according to U.S. Rep. Chris Deluzio, D-17th
District. Deluzio represents Beaver County in Congress; therefore, he
co-sponsors the House version of the Railway Safety Act, a companion measure to
comparable legislation in the Senate. He met with Norfolk Southern CEO Alan
Shaw this week, urging the train corporation to endorse his proposal. But they
don't favor a two-person minimum staffing requirement. Anyone passing down the
street who sees these big freight trains thinks it's absurd that one person
might be the sole worker on board. One of Deluzio's bill's provisions is that at
least two employees must work on moving freight trains. Read
